The power of black and white images comes from their ability to transform objects and scenes we see every day into contrasted shapes and patterns that intrigue us. They make things more romantic, solemn, nostalgic, simplified, and sophisticated. The absence of color forces us to interpret the images from a state of neutrality and to make sense of what we are looking at solely on the basis of familiar shapes. This online exhibition, Contrast, seeks to find black and white artwork across all 2D and 3D visual mediums to showcase the creativity and power of contrasted, colorless representations of our world.
