a tiny black and photo in a book i picked up in Portland Oregon, of the great ballerina Margo Fonteyn provided the initial impetus behind this fantasy work...then i thought that situating her in a twilight landscape would be mysterious, and the red curtain on the left would be oddly out of place in a landscape. The viewer is left to wonder if the ballet is on stage...or...
The surface is very heavily worked, with colored glazes on top of impasto paint. The piece is on masonite which is glued on stretcher bars. It is a very permanent piece. It is wired for hanging. This work was displayed at the Thousand Oaks Performing Arts Center in March-June 2015.
