Information

These 5x7 Scratchboards are mounted on a high quality giclee reproduction of a photo I took while in Sarajevo with NATO forces in 1996. It shows what used to be the Olympics Stadium. That sight of the stadium surrounded by concertina wire really captured in my mind how significant the actual siege was. This was a cosmopolitan city with all ethnic and religious groups living together peacefully prior to the war. The two panels are a group of civilians taking cover during one of the many mortar and artillery strikes that targeted civilians in the city. Civilians explained to me how they would run for cover through the streets to fetch water and basic staples when available. Serbian snipers perched in the hilltop town of Grbavica overlooking Sarajevo would shoot civilians on the streets below.
