Firebush is a beautiful Florida native shrub and a pollinator's favorite. When I began work on this woodblock print, I snipped some firebush from from my garden and placed them in a vintage Blenko bottle, a classic of American glassblowing. I drew directly on the rough-grained wood panel, using leaf shadows to capture shapes. I carved two different blocks and printed them in orange, yellow, green and purple, with transparencies and overlays creating additional hues. Carving marks add texture to the open background. Printed on fine Japanese Okawara paper.
