Mixed-media piece. Colored pencil, ink, sewing machine stitchery.
In this piece I chose to explore the ideas of "tension" and "surrendering".
In my own life, I have come to realize that surrendering is not always a failure. There are times that I have felt like I was holding one end of a rope in a game of tug of war. There are times when I have learned to stop struggling and just let go of the rope and walk away. There is sometimes personal strength gained in surrender. Of course, I'm careful about what I choose to surrender from, but it keeps me from getting stuck and I can move on.
I love sewing, on fabric but also on paper, I love the tension between the upper and lower threads intertwined, yet held together by tension. It's fun to explore tension in two and three dimensional spaces for art.
