A pair of waves racing to the shore on a windy autumn day on Sanibel is an iconic image for me. I could watch the waves forever. Capturing their beauty and motion in a 2D medium starts with the vast amount of water pushing, pushing, pushing behind the wave, seemingly flat but full of power. Painting the wave shape is a function of describing thickness by the amount of translucency displayed. Adding the spume and foam releases the wave's exuberance and is a painter's reward for another work completed.
