Information

This piece is part of a collection on shamanism. Specifically, this shaman is a fictional representation of a Mongolian black shaman, whose likeness belongs to no single person. I was inspired by Mongolian shamanistic dress, and wanted this figure to appear friendly and human despite his studies.

There are different types of Mongolian shamans including the Black and White, Black Shamans are usually perceived as working with evil spirits, while white Shamans with spirits of the upper world. If one shaman calls upon an opposing spirit, black or white, they are punished by their original spiritual alignment.

Artists deal with black and white, this series is all about the balance and contrast of black and white. The first shamans were artist and vice versa.

The piece is a digital painting, using many "brushes" to achieve this look.

This piece contrasts with the Feathered Shaman.
