The term "pagpag" is a Filipino superstition that comes about during wakes or after funerals. Meaning to "shake off", the term resides in the belief that the deceased may follow the visitors of its wake to their respective homes. Hence, instead of going home directly from the place where the funeral is held, elders always remind those who paid respect to take a pit stop somewhere else first to leave the spirit behind.
The belief is that this will confuse any spirits who are trying to make their way home with you and they will then move on without becoming an unwelcomed permanent resident in your residence
