The public relies upon physicians and medical scientists to provide an objective and impartial model of the natural world. However, authors of medical textbooks of the early twentieth century often abused public trust by utilizing medical literature as a forum for preaching a biased agenda based upon society's prevalent moral and religious views. Patient histories were often falsified and results intentionally misinterpreted. As a result, the personas of the patients whose photographs appear in these texts are forever imprisoned by lies and are shackled to these bogus narratives.
