Woven Strips of Pen and Ink Abstracts
2021
Whether it was COVID-induced, or not, my work shifted to the blue end of the color spectrum and strongly toward the weave pattern, in terms of technique. Previous works blended dynamic and organic forms in the primary colors.
As 2021 wore on, blue prevailed and was later joined by India Ink. Weaves began as an experiment during the down time provided by Hurricane Elsa and then turned into 'Weave Fever,' as weaves became the primary output of the studio!
'Cleanout' is made from a combination of Yupo and canvas strips that have been marked with India Ink, acrylic inks, and marker. The Yupo strips evoke the earlier, organic works while the canvas strips speak to the lean toward the geometric.
In 2022, I intend to work in larger formats - woven and unwoven. Ideas are percolating around breaking the rigid, square weave.
