Information

This piece is a play on the typical self-portrait; a psychological self-portrait. When creating this piece I wanted to make sure that the chaos and uncertainty going on in my mind was the feeling portrayed in the piece. The mix of collage, painting, pastel doodles, and yarn accentuates the chaos while the torn apart face held together by yarn shows the brokenness I felt inside. This piece was created towards the beginning of my journey to self-acceptance and more importantly the beginning of my gender crisis. When I think of this piece, I see a confused "girl" trying desperately to escape the prison in her mind. This piece is about pain and internal turmoil.
