This is a shot from an art installation in Amarillo, Texas called Cadillac Ranch. The mission of the artists was to challenge traditional notions of architecture. However, what I saw in Cadillac Ranch was a dystopian vision of American culture in the spirit of Koyaanisqatsi and I imagined the photographer capturing the visuals of this scene for evidence to future generations. I also see the camera paralleling the radio tower as instruments of communication requiring human agency. The distant female observer distracts the viewer of the photograph so we are not voyeuristically watching a photographer but rather catching a glimpse of a post-apocalyptic world.
