Karol Hilker painted the figures in A Vague Memory to be fused together in their embrace. Every edge of their bodies are pressed together. Silver wire sewn into the canvas binds them even closer. This is an impossible position, yet it feels natural. They relax into each other while holding tight. The atmospheric area around the figures makes them float in their own moment, separate from the chaotic world. If they were to lose each other, the memory of this embrace would not fade.
This piece is created with acrylic paint in drips, brush marks and puddling using alcohol into wet paint. The silver wire is sewn into the canvas. The figures are contrasted in color and marks to emphasis their individuality while they become one.
