Information

Birds of Paradise is a series of artworks featuring various species of birds over picturesque abstract backgrounds. I drew inspiration for this series from my home and multicultural background. I was born in Honduras, a country with abundant rainforests and beautiful creatures.

My process is very intuitive as I paint on a moment to moment basis. My intention is to connect to my audience and their experiences. The driving force behind this process is that of learning and experimentation. My day to day interactions, my upbringing, my intuition and emotions are all motivators and inspiration for every piece. In this series, for example, during COVID, I felt compelled to reconnect with nature. I realized the landscapes I saw on my road trip across the US reminded me of the beautiful landscapes we have back in Honduras. I was sure I wanted to integrate nature into my figurative artwork so I took visual sources that I found online and made them my own. I integrated abstract markings to represent the diversity of the beautiful habitats. The bright colors fused on stark backgrounds are explosions of expression with a combination of calmness as is in these tropical paradises.

Toucans (Ramphastidae), on the other hand, are native to South America, Central America, and Mexico. It is said that Toucans are resident breeders and don't migrate.
