My erotic drawing of Vincent van Gogh depicts him in the remains of the same outfit from Paul Gauguin's "The Painter of Sunflowers" (1888). This, more than some of my other works, has to do with how perceptions are distorted. In order to achieve the extreme perspective, my model and I had our faces almost pressed together when I was working on this piece. It's a very intimate and distorted perspective, which given the subject is a historical figure whose legacy is a mix of pedestalization and kitsch (I got the idea for this piece when I was working in the gift shop for an immersive van Gogh experience) I feel is appropriate.
