When I first began work on this painting I was captured by two things: first, the seeming weightlessness of the subject, and second, the fluidity. But as it progressed, I was blown away by the attention to the minutest of details that professional dancers ascribe to every second of every movement. The forward had bent up as the forward foot is rising and pointed down forcing the viewer to experience the openness of the stance moving forward, while the retreating hand is bent down to mirror the retreating foot bent up thus closing off the back of the stance. The fingers just so, head erect and searching forward. Movement is beauty.
