Oil paint over acrylic
The orbs produced in this work are similar to what is observed when hydrophobic droplets such as oil are viewed under a microscope. This painting is part of my fractured abstraction series. Paintings of this series take on a broken look, sort of like a mosaic of paint and often have a stained glass aesthetic. This effect is created by painting layers of acrylic in a loose manner until a composition appears. Then glazes of oil paint are used to create more depth until a defined image comes forward. Finally, black oil paint is used to finish off the painting and produce the mosaic look.
