" Pity Patty " pays tribute to the legendary works of Margaret Keane and her influence on kitsch iconography. This piece was a part of a body of work in which I explored representations of dolls as effigies of the human experience. The popularity of Keane's " big eye " paintings subsequently inspired a trend in the 1960s of manufactured dolls that were characterized by sad and longing expressions, such as Susie Sad Eyes and Little Miss No Name. In this work, I reinterpret this iconography as a tribute to my appreciation for the art of kitsch and forgotten aesthetics.
