Information

"Lunch" depicts a small, crowded space that might force intimacy on the characters in this two-dimensional world. The blank eyes of the "Hostesses" maintain a needed distance from the semi-interested patrons. The clock without hands, a symbol that can be interpreted as one chooses, suggests that the two main characters are "Doing Time."
The color green represents balance, reinforced by the floating figure's unnatural detachment and seemingly upward movement. The yellow of the disheveled smock has many interpretations, but for me, its caution and optimism counter the empty glass's implied hopelessness.
I have known professional women like those I depict here, but their eyes revealed a strength and understanding of their chosen paths. This image is not necessarily my experience.
