Like most of us, I've been intrigued by erotic images since adolescence. As I've matured and acquired life experiences, sexual and non-sexual, my appreciation has become increasingly intellectual in addition to visceral. Portrayal of the human body, partially clothed or naked, at rest or involved in subtle or overt sexual activity can be viewed as pornographic or artistic, depending on a host of factors, including culture, religion/spirituality, familal upbringing, mood and sexual orientation, as well as one's own past erotic experiences. My "definition" of erotic art includes the ability to tap into the viewers' intimate fantasies, emotions and, yes, lust. But beyond that, I hope these images expand the viewers' concept of erotic play and foster a sense of peace involved in the practice and exchange of sexual energy.
I began my training in the arts as a kid growing up in Washington DC n the 50's and 60's, including formal training in color theory and composition, as well as frequent visits to the various fine art museums in that city. However my training did not include photography and I'm largely self trained in that field, meaning that I'm still learning and evolving. A two year stint in Key West proved to be highly motivational: the light, colors and exotic people and plants are unique to that city and provided lots of fodder for my photography. Living in St Petersburg, FL and belonging to the local artist's enclave have provided strong motivation to pursue my craft. At this time I'm focusing on indigenous Florida nature, the male body as art, images of erotic energy and tattooed individuals of either gender. My goals are to make people aware of the beauty all around them and to give them permission to be voyeurs, through my photography, without the embarrassment of being caught.
