My passion is painting people in their natural state, not posed. I look for something in them-- the position of their figure, or the expression in their face that speaks to me and hopefully to the viewer of my painting. Something of their inner being at that moment in time that they would not normally reveal. My goal is to grab that feeling and make the painting about that feeling.
I began painting as a teen, without any formal instruction. My paintings won awards and I continued painting and selling until I entered law school. After I retired, I began painting again. I took classes at the Boca Museum School and shortly there after I began studying with Susan Hanssen up through this time. I also studied with Diane Nance and Sally Cooper. I have taken numerous workshops, Mel Stabin, Skip Lawrence, Diane Nance, Jeanie McGuire, Sally Cooper and Stan Kurth. I studied art history with Dr. Joseph Cassar.
My passion is painting the figure. I began with watercolors, which I find magical. I have since started to paint with acrylics which allows me more flexibility but still enjoy the magic of watercolors. I am a direct and spontaneous painter so I do enjoy the additonal flexibility of acrylics.
To my surprise, I was accepted in numerous juried art shows and have won many awards from Best in Show, First Place, Second Place, to Emerging Artist. I have earned signature membership with Palm Beach Watercolor Society and Gold Coast Watercolor Society. My paintings have been accepted into juried shows with Southern Watercolor Society (Merchandise Award), Plantation Watercolor Society (First Place), and Florida Watercolor.
