Biography

Barbara presents a portfolio filled with vibrant colors, textures and stories!!


Barbara Simmons is a 'photographic artist' whose images don books,
magazines, CD covers, gallery walls and live musical/video productions. Barbara also
holds a licensing contract with McGaw Publishing, marketing her work worldwide.


Born in 1953, in South Philadelphia, Barbara grew up playing in the streets of Little Italy, buying her first real camera at a young age to document family and city life. Moving to New Smyrna Beach, FL in 1981, Barbara's work began to be recognized as her style emerged. The following years were spent doing the art show circuit, winning numerous awards for the uniqueness of her photography; thus opening new opportunities for her art.

Barbara began creating self-portrait composites to have total control over the images she created and the stories she wanted to tell. Not all of Barbara's works are autobiographical in nature, but hold a truth about life and perhaps Life Lessons Learned.

Barbara's goal is to evoke emotion within a photographic frame of time. Layering image textures, using photographic composites, painting with light...all techniques aiding in the creation of her vision and reflecting the spiritual connection she feels for the world around her.
