For this exhibition, Phia and Moses wanted to explore the duality of gender expression with specific emphasis on androgyny. Influenced by icons such as David Bowie, Phia modeled their make-up look after Bowie's famous Ziggy Stardust look. The black and white aesthetic was chosen by Moses to accentuate the contrast and the masculine aspects of Phia while the props and wardrobe were chosen to accentuate the feminine aspects. The combination of these features strive to explore the dual nature of gender and the non-binary and androgynous experience.
Moses has been a photographer since 2003, starting in an after-school dark room program. The model, Phia Leigh, reignited Moses's passion for photography and has posed as a muse for several ongoing projects all focused on the themes of duality, juxtaposition, the after effects of natural disasters in their local community (Lake Charles, LA), gender identity and expression, and much more. Mose and Phia are a creative team from Lake Charles, LA who plan to continue exploring these themes in their art. Moses is currently in a Masters' program for special education and plans to continue her work as a photographer and artist. Phia Leigh is a non-binary drag performer at local venues in Lake Charles.
