Cobwebs

Artist Statement

This piece is titled, " Make Me Feel," as it was created out of a desire to subdue the conscious mind and bring the feeling body into full awareness. The use of toys that combine many sensations allows the usually suppressed desire for carnal pleasure come to the conscious surface. My purpose is to throw away definitions, labels, and preconceived notions of gender, sexuality, and shame to replace those with honest desire. Shame works to suppress the carnal part of humanity that is capable of ultimate pleasure. I ask, then, if the body's ability to feel pleasure is natural, is suppressing that nature then less human? Shame is the corruption of humanity at in its purest form, and my work attempts to undue that.

Biography

I create erotic and provocative art under the name Cobwebs (they/them). My inspiration in creating pieces such as this stems from a life of chronic illness and pain as well as a stern religious upbringing. Because of my complicated relationship with the body, I am inspired to create art that explores the body's ability to give and receive pleasure. The purpose of eroticism in my work is to inspire viewers to claim physical autonomy and sexual liberation.
