As an artist, I am merely a child who is simply experimenting with the myriad of materials available at an artist's disposal. Growing up, the act of painting, drawing, and creating were all experiments. An exploration of color, texture, line, and shapes. The bright and colorful environments that I grew up in influenced my work and so did different types of Asian media from anime to video games. Needless to say, "cute" has always been a part of my work.
As the cliché goes, I have always been an artist. As a child, I grew up in the beautiful and lush environment that is Miami, raised by a Cuban father and a Korean mother. I was surrounded by so many different colors, sights, sounds, and smells. I was definitely different. But then again, a lot of artists are.
I never stopped creating, even after moving to Tampa with my family. I continued to be inspired by everything around me. I studied art at the University of South Florida, however, I didn't quite connect with the conceptual material that was created by my peers there. Regardless, I still learned. But, I was always influenced by the very things that inspired me to be an artist. I spent 7 years as an art educator and all that really did was inspire me even more. Seeing my student's love and passion for art reminded me of who I wanted to be. And so, I put down the white board marker, satisfied with what I had helped to foster in my classrooms, and I am now on a journey to continue exploring as an artist. To continue being who I was always meant to be.
