Dire Wolf came about one day as I was swiping other animals on canvas. I had decided that I wanted to do a swiped animal series and I did a couple of foxes to start. Dire Wolf popped up in my head and because of my schedule I was not able to paint for at least a couple of weeks so he was designed virtually over and over again. By the time I was actually able to paint he just flowed right out of the brush and swiping technique.
I think my love of animals helps me create the different characteristics my swiped animals portray.
With over 20 years between picking up paint brushes, in March of 2020, I decided to try acrylic pouring. The pandemic and quarantine was in full swing and having so much time on my hands, I decided this method would ease me back into the painting world.
I grew up in Holley NY and attended 1 year of college at Genesee Community College for Art before I got married. I entered my high school work, both oils and acrylic into competitions and did receive recognition on one of my paintings. In October of 2020 I took a virtual acrylic pouring workshop thru the Agora Gallery of NYC and recieved a certificate of completion. In January of 2021 I entered the international Luxembourg Art Prize contest and won a certificate of merit.
Painting has always brought an inner peace to me and I'm is elated to have found that feeling again. Acrylic pouring may be an abstract form of painting, but I enjoy the puzzle of finding forms within the pours to embellish.
I particularly like the swipe method and feel like I have given it my own twist. I like the manipulation and control of the paint while swiping along with the surprise of finding hidden objects after the paint settles.
