As a realism artist, my inspiration is nature. What do I see? Why do I see it? I am fascinated with the way clouds billow till they reach the top of the atmosphere and then get wisped away by upper winds and how deep indigo the rain looks below the clouds. I'm fascinated by the properties of water, up close and the surface tension against a water lily or waves on the beach, and how light reflects and inverts when it meets water. I love to think about the physics or earth science the how and why--about my subjects. I hope that the viewers of my art can see how that realism, Creation, and all its beauty.
Creating art is a passion of mine that started when I was old enough to hold a crayon. My parents invested in drawing lessons when I was about 7 or 8. After playing with watercolor sets till my early teen years, I was ready to try out "thick paint." My mom got me my first starter set of acrylic paints in 2003 when I was 16. I taught myself to paint florals and landscapes in the following years. In college, I took classes in watercolor and oils with painter and muralist, Robert Barnum, at Ferris State University. Since 2015, I work almost exclusively in oils.
