Do you believe in magic? When your eye is presented with an image of profound beauty, simplicity, emotion, color, form or design, the photographer has hopefully created a sense of magic - a sense of wonder, that "wow" factor - about the object or the scene in the image. But what is it about that image that makes it magical? I have always been captivated by geometry and symmetry, whether I see it in the architecture of cityscapes, individual structures, patterns in nature or in landscapes. I hope to bring this sense of amazement and wonder by presenting a new or unique perspective regardless of subject. And for me, that's the magic.
I have almost always carried a camera with me over the course of my 38-year military and federal service career. Now retired from all that and as an emerging artist, I have the latitude to explore photographic subjects that allow me to "slow it down." Night photography, with its need for long exposures, and landscapes, in particular, permit me the opportunity to take the time to find the right perspective and composition. In the process of deciding the next trajectory and prior to retirement, I returned to school part-time to add a BFA in Photography to better equip me for this next chapter. So, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks.
