Artist Statement

A creative gift that has been passed down from generations as my grandmother, grandfather, mother, and father were all artistic and loved creating things with their own two hands. Art for me is a way to explore and unite everything I love and feel to share with the world. They are like cherished items to keep forever. The grit to never give up and persevere in both art and life. Without art I feel lost.

Biography

Carrie O'Brien grew up in Michigan and spent many years in Upstate New York. She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Art degree from the State University of Oswego in Oswego, NY. Co-curator for The Gallery at the Tech Garden, she managed many exhibitions for local artists and volunteered her time during the holidays at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, NY. Her work has been exhibited at The Point of Contact Gallery for the Sum Art 2019 exhibition where she sold all but one painting and was commissioned for many more from private collectors. Three years ago, she moved to St. Petersburg, showing at the Polk Museum of Art at Florida Southern College, in the Hindsight 2020 exhibition. There is more to come as she continually develops sewn acrylic paintings. Her instructor Kathy Budd, always said, "You can do anything you put your mind to."
