Self-taught artist
Mediums: Oil paint and oil sticks, acrylics, pastels, charcoal, collage
Style: Expressionist
Themes: Angst, fear, frustration, confusion, conflict, paranoia, violence, substance abuse, religious and sexual oppression, and humor
Statement:
I paint directly to a surface, without drawing, depicting symbolic realities in a closed, two-dimensional world. My narratives are primitively executed in an expressionist style, at times without conscious thought, using images from the unconscious mind as part of a creative process. Cathartic memories and automatism dictate the direction of my paintings in some cases.
I use recurring themes of angst, fear, frustration, confusion, conflict, paranoia, violence, substance abuse, religious and sexual oppression, and humor.
"The object of art is not to reproduce reality, but to create a reality of the same intensity."
Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966)
