I regard art as a means of eliciting emotion, whether good, bad, or indifferent. I compare it to religion, meaning a personal choice and emotional connection with the choice.
I typically use color pencil, markers, pastels and watercolor to render my art. However, I intend to show more of my oil and acrylic paintings in the near future. I enjoy creating figurative renderings, but also create abstract pieces.
As a graphic designer, as well as a fine artist, I am always drawn to the juxtaposition of elements within a space, and how the elements relate to each other spatially, by color, or by texture, for weight and balance. That dynamic is a feature in every piece I create.
Ama Appiah is a graphic and fine artist. She is originally from Niagara Falls, NY, but has resided in St. Petersburg, FL for the past 20 years.
Ama's interest in art began as a young child. She eventually graduated from college with a major in graphic design, but it would be several years later that she would actually pursue a creative career. In 2020, Ama decided to reconnect with her creative talents after many years of practicing law. She founded her own arts business, a.Appiah Designs, LLC, and began participating in local art exhibitions.
In her free time Ama enjoys the local beaches and partaking in the variety of arts experiences St. Petersburg has to offer.
