Artist Statement

My artwork is created from a free-spirited, "outside the box" point of view. I find inspiration in using recycled materials to create a humorous, light-hearted feeling to evoke someone else's own creativity. Previously, working in recycling at a young age, I have a great appreciation for seeing art in all things under-appreciated. I use a variety of materials to make unique, one of a kind pieces that give a new perspective to discarded items.

Biography

I am a self-taught artist that is inspired by objects found in the everyday world. Whether it's a piece of wire, a scrap of metal or an old can of neon paint, there is a story and a purpose for it. Coming from a family of creatives, I was surrounded by art at a very young age. I found a passion for magic and how it allowed me to express my creativity and also give me a positive outlook of all the possibilities. As a young adult, I had the opportunity to work at a recycling plant, where again, I saw all the possibilities of what these discarded items could be and how to give them life again. My own philosophy of finding the magic in everything, became a pattern of my life, and still leads me through everyday trials and tribulations.

In my adult life, I have had the opportunity to explore the Appalachian Trail, where I had to quiet my mind by observing my surroundings and appreciating all that it offered. I was also able to have a work life of travel and explore the country. I have lived and worked in small towns, craft districts, and bustling cities. Learning to quiet my mind by tinkering with objects and making them purposeful for whatever I needed, became a comfortable and meaningful way of life. This again, became a pattern for me.

It hasn't been until very recently, that I would consider myself an artist. I am now able to recognize that I have created mixed media art my whole life. Currently residing outside of the Tampa Bay area, I work in the telecommunications industry full-time. At the end of the day I find solace in tending to my plants, "tinkering", or making mixed media art, and sometimes...rescuing turtles named Norman. My life is still full of trials and tribulations, but at the end of the day, finding the humor and magic in everything, somehow always leads to the light at the end of the tunnel.
