Artist Statement

My appreciation for art was inspired by the paintings in museums that I visited during my travels in Europe.
I received my impetus to turn my love of painting into a sole pursuit, while studying with Frank Arcuri. Frank is a renowned Bucks County artist and taught the dramatic" Chiaroscuro" effect seen in many centuries old European paintings.
My paintings are inspired by nature, as I explore light, textures, shapes and relationships. Each painting tells a story and is intended to stimulate the viewers senses with images of the beauty of nature from beautiful flowers to succulent paintings of food and wine,
I use a variety of antiques in my compositions to bring the viewer back in time . These subjects revive fond memories of their past or reminisce about
their childhood at Grandma's house or Grandpa's garden. My rendition of "Le Vase de ma Femme" is my wife's favorite vase that belonged to her Mom.
My paintings begin with a live composition that is bathed in a direct light or natural light from a cool northern exposure. I do this to define the five types of light.(direct light, mid tone, shadow, reflective and highlights.) on the main subject and subordinate subjects,
I paint with oils on linen mounted on board and I use filbert bristle brushes with a Moroger medium.

I have exhibited my art in many juried shows in Florida. My paintings have received numerous awards and have been displayed in various art centers and galleries in and around the Tampa/St Petersburg/Sarasota. Punta Gorda. New Jersey and Bucks County Pennsylvania.

Biography

I was born in Paterson New Jersey and received a marketing degree from Seton Hall University. After my tour in the Army, and a memorable career in the retail and financial industry, I retired to Florida in 1995 with my wife Cynthia. I am now pursuing my desire to capture nature's beauty with paint and canvas.
AS a representational artist, my still life paintings begin with a live composition that is bathed in coo; direct or natural light from a Northern exposure.
I do this to define the five types of light( direct light, mid tone , shadow, accents and reflected light) on the main subject and subordinate subjects.
I paint with oils on linen mounted on board. I prefer bristle filbert brushes with Moroger as a medium.
I have exhibited my paintings in many juried shows in Florida. My paintings have received numerous awards and have been displayed in various art centers, and galleries in Sarasota, Punta Gorda, Fort Meyers. New Jersey and Bucks County Pennsylvania.
My studio at the ARTSXCHANGE CAMPUS ) in the Arts District in St Petersburg.
