Karol Hilker has enjoyed painting and taking on commissioned art work as a full time artist her entire life. In getting her degrees she was taught oils, acrylics, watercolors, alcohol links, pastels, murals, mixed media, printmaking, clays, and jewelry. She will include all mediums she knows to create the emotion and depth the piece needs. Many of her canvas pieces are cut open, sutured back with silver wires. Mirrors reflect the environment and the viewer while crystals, beads and silver wires reflect light. She uses lush, vibrant colors next to subtle neutral tones for a vibrant layering effect. She manipulates these layers and controlled drips to allow the backgrounds into the foreground. Her figures embrace And support each other. They are reflective and deal with the chaos found with existing in their life. Whether it is pieces created in her studio or plein air, Karol's paintings explore the richness of life through layering of images, movement, and color.
