Painting gives me a direct dialogue with My Creative higher power. I have chosen to work primarily non-objectively; this language allows me a connection that is sacred. I work in layers of passages with both energy bursts and deliberate movements that find their own rhythm. There is a story between the sharpness of a straight line and the softness of a curved line that is intriguing to me. The same with color, bold or muted. The application of paint changes everything about how you see the color and what it make you feel. With each passage you can see my joy, fear, hope, my utter struggle to makes sense of things that I have no answers to. As the layers build, the piece becomes richer with meaning that resonates with subtle nuances and depth. These paintings are more abstract than nonobjective.

Bio
Kimberly Cook Stone
Coloring outside of the lines or experimenting with blue trees was not excepted in elementary school in rural Virginia in the 1960's.
As a child Kim spent a lot of time outside, watching the light coming through the trees, daydreaming while watching the light dance on the ocean, pond or puddles. Those imagines would carry through to find the way into her art.
Kim received a degree in photography and did an internship in medical photography. She married her husband Tom Stone and they were blessed with 2 daughters. She choose to be a present parent and spouse until both her daughters entered college. While living in Madisonville, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans, Kim started making beaded jewelry using natural stones, crystals and antique findings. Life took a turn when they moved to Ruston, Louisiana. A friend invited her to take a painting class at Louisiana Tech University. That one week course changed everything. Sparking a relief and freedom she longed for in life. Creativity found her through painting and the word abstraction felt comfortable.
Kim has studied with Douglas Walton from Louisiana Tech University. Judi Dazzio, artist, MFA, in St. Petersburg. Also artist, writer, and author of "Expressive Drawing" Steven Aimone, eventually becoming his assistant at residences. Fran Gardner, artist, author,MFA..

She has placed in the International Society of Acrylic Painters of Florida. Her work has also been chosen for a traveling show by The Experimental Painters Association. This painting traveled to California, Florida and Wales.
She has taught painting to both children and adults. Her belief is that we all need to remain open to new opportunities to express ourselves. This is an important gift you should allow yourself to embrace.
Kim listens to music while painting. She believes that paintings like music can change a persons mood, much when like the sun shines on your face you feel lighter. Being an empathetic introvert she found it important to find comfort in nature. She finds inspiration and is refreshed by brilliant colors and dancing light found in different landscapes of this amazing world. The imagination of the Creator is felt deeply by Kim.
Kim was born in Plant City, Florida. She grew up in North Carolina and Virginia, landing in the Greater Tidewater area of Virginia. As a married woman she has lived all over Florida and Louisiana. She, her husband Tom and dog Oliver now live in St. Petersburg, Florida. She has 2 beautiful talented grown daughters (one married) and an amazing granddaughter and a grandson on the way. She absolutely loves being with her family & cooking a meal. Kim thinks a hug can say more than words ever will. And she is over the moon happy to be a grandmother. She feels so Blessed to still have both her parents and brother in her life.
