Artist Statement

Im an artist that works in acrylic, mixed mediums, pen and ink,watercolor and gouache. I also enjoy creating digital art and blending traditional and digital art. My art is about celebrating color, life, joy and my journey.

I work primarily in acrylics because it allows me to express my creativity quickly with many layers and techniques within short periods of time.

I also like to create digital art using Photoshop, Painter and Procreate. Some of my paintings even provide the basis for many of my digital art pieces - and some digital pieces become the foundation for my acrylic works.

Some pieces are born without planning but are created from the blank canvas - a journey to simply create based on mood and music. There are times when I am inspired by life events or subjects that merit a series as well.

In the process of creating most of my work, I strive to create an excitement with the space and color - that the viewer will take part in a whimsical and colorful engagement.

I started my journey as a graphic designer and have transitioned more into painting abstract and surreal pieces - with an occasion trek back to design. My evolution as artist leads me more towards painting with different mediums in order to fufill my desire to create.

Biography

I was that kid that sat alone and colored all the time, won the grade school art contests, and drew from every comic book that I collected. From school newspapers, pep club banners and set design for the school revues, I was that "art kid" that drew and painted everything! My first job was as a graphic designer with a local TV station where all of my experiences prepared me for promotional design, sets, and broadcast art - even painting the station news vehicles! My "day job" as a graphic designer progressed into Marketing - but I have always painted and created in addition to my graphics position. I hope to transition away from graphic art into fine art as the next chapter of my art journey.
