Artist Statement

The Geckos Series, produced in 2020, uses elements of my training as a classical animator working on children's TV series. I use saturated, bright colors, geometric positioning, and imbue the geckos with lively personalities. These works invite the viewer to re-imagine the charm and grace of these creatures that surround us in Florida.

Biography

Arnie Lipsey is a graduate of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts School of Art and Design. After graduation, he had a decades-long career in animation in film and television. Working in classical animation (as animator, director, designer and storyboard artist) using pencil and paper, he later successfully transitioned to digital technologies. He augmented his commercial output with independent filmmaking, creating award-winning short animated films that have been internationally recognized. Arnie is a member of Acrylic Painters USA and the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance.
