Baker's Globe Mallow, or Baker's Wild Hollyhock, is an uncommon flower that only blooms after wildfires. They are dormant until placed under intense heat. Hollyhocks in general are known for their immense amount of strength and resilience despite conditions thrown their way. I originally started this painting with a few women friends in mind, but it later blossomed into thinking about Black women and their historical roles that we typically sweep under the rug; but time and time again, Black women stand up for equality and to push forward. Black women are one of the many reasons why we need Intersectionality within our Activism.
