America came to acquire Hawaii through a sugar trade, later it became a state and the birthplace of Obama! It's just another example of Imperialism. The history of Hawaii taught in schools is extremely lacking in what those words truly mean. It's the destruction of a culture. It's the current capitalization of a culture that demonized within the same century. It's the intergenerational trauma that continues to affect native Hawaiians today.
