Humans are a delightfully kinky species, and always have been, no matter how deeply we bury the fact under layers of cultural repression. I've always been fascinated by this side of our humanity, and by how diverse and resilient it is in spite of attempts to suppress or stamp it out. And, by how much joy it brings to those who free themselves from stigmas against it! Fetishists, dominants and submissives, nudists, consensual non-monogamists -- far from being the seedy underbelly of society, these are often the happiest and most well-adjusted among us, even if you'd never know it from the bruises and rope marks concealed under their clothing at the grocery store.
I photographed Amy and Nick in a Seattle hotel room in 2016, documentary-style. Rather than directing them to pose a certain way to make a certain point, I asked them simply to be natural, my point being to capture the natural joy in being who they are, two rope enthusiasts who find pleasure and intimacy in consensual bondage.
