How far have we separated ourselves from the natural world, encasing ourselves in shrouds of fabric and leather, walls of glass and stone, cities of concrete and steel? How far, in concentric layers of history and tradition, culture and custom, symbol and allegory? And yet, at heart, we are naked, on watch against a world we perceive as dangerous, with some part of ourselves wondering if it might be better to cast off the defenses and rejoin the world.
I photographed Marzipanned in Seattle in 2019. As we worked, Cosmo wandered into the picture, as wild things are wont to do, and perched in the window, a perfect embodiment of metaphor.
