Information

Originally created for an exhibit called Decades, This piece contains elements of Art Deco and Art Nouveau that was prevalent in the 1910s. The coloring in the mermaid, the fish and the ocean are scans of acrylic papers I painted. It was printed for me on a wood panel from a digital file that was created in Procreate by a sign company in St. Pete, and some foil was added to create some of the glimmering starts. It is an ode to the sinking of the Titanic on April 15, 1912. The scene is before the sinking, and from the perspective of a lonely mermaid sitting on an iceberg. Maybe she had a small revelation of what was about to happen. Did she play a part in that? If you study the sky, you will find many faint references to 1910 life and some people who perished and some who survived. Look closely in the clouds for a stateroom on the titanic, a dirigible, a nicely dressed couple and more.
