This art piece was created by starting with a birch board then covering it with layers of molten beeswax and pigments. The photo of my cats was manipulated with a digital program and then printed on tissue paper. The tissue image was embedded into the wax with a heat gun. Then layers of melted wax and pigments were repeatedly added and scraped back to get the final surface, which was sealed with a blow torch. Digital manipulation of the original photo was key to laying the foundation and getting the desired effect.
