"Rough Seas" is a mixed media piece incorporating powder metals, enamels, mica crystals, natural pigments stabilized in resin and fixed with micro-crystalline wax. The presentation offers a view of the raw edges of the support surface in contrast to the elegant frame.
Coming from an island one of my existential fuels is the sea. Undeniable and unapologetically powerful. A force that is both soft and fluid but strong and untamable. We cannot dominate nor fully control her strength. Reason why the sea for many is as a god. Vital, essential, inclusive, beautiful, unforgiving and forever dynamic. Like fire, both a creator and a destroyer. A motivator and pacifier. A giver of life and a taker.
We often call our minds and situations a rough sea. An environment of diverse elements existing inside a common substance being moved and tossed around, mixed and separated. A world of contrast and unity in which the dynamics exert forces simultaneously. We have always hoped that eventually we can find the calm in the rough seas.
