I created this unique and multidimensional artwork to not only be enjoyed with the eyes, but to open the possibility for physical interaction as well. By intertwining colors, materials, textures, and shapes I was able to create a piece that could be appreciated by both sighted and unsighted individuals. One of the most expressed rules of artwork is "Do not touch", however I wanted to create a piece that allows individuals who are tactile oriented to break that rule and experience the art in a physical way. Upon first glance, the draping faux leather is often confused for hammered metal; the viewer is then pleasantly surprised at the softness and flexibility of the material once they venture to touch it. The soft turquoise fabric was chosen to mimic the beautiful turquoise waters of the Caribbean where I was born. But the girl from The Bahamas moved to the U.S., became a Florida girl, and fell in love with the gorgeous freshwater springs of Central Florida. I was able to combine my love of the beautiful Bahamian seas with the tranquility of the meandering Florida springs.
