Information

Girlhood Lost is a piece I made when I first heard of the Overturning of Roe V wade in June 2022, I started this piece with tears running down my face and just now had the courage to finish it. The purpose of this piece is to call out the Supreme Court for their decision to not protect reproductive rights for all americans. This will have disastrous consequences for girls and other people with uterus’. I ended up protesting in front of the Supreme court the fourth of July 2022, seeing artists and activists alike screaming their outrage at courts.
I study both political science and visual arts at Eckerd College, my two majors influence each other immensely. I create political artwork using mixed media, this piece specifically is made of watercolor paint on watercolor paper, stamps and ink, adhesive gems, bible pages, cut outs from 2012 Tiger beat magazines, and stereotypically girly stickers. I wanted to represent the naivety of childhood with this piece and represent how young some of the people who will be affected by this action of the courts, will truly be. The juxtaposition of the youthful, bright colors and young representation of a pregnant girl with the devastating look on her face and blood spilling from her is meant to unsettle you, to wake you up.
