In this piece, I confront the harsh realities of eviction and its disproportionate impact on women, particularly single mothers and women of color. This painting is a meditation on the vulnerabilities and struggles that arise when housing is no longer a given but a looming threat. Statistically mothers experience the highest rates of eviction and motherhood can force many women into poverty. Due to the currrent abortion laws many women are being forced to carry children- which can force them into poverty, provide undue stress- physical, financial and emotional. This painting speaks to the quiet endurance of women, who are forced to navigate systems that often devalue their labor, their motherhood, and their humanity. It is a testament to their strength but also a call to action—urging society to confront the structures that perpetuate these cycles of displacement and despair.
