For me. Painting provides a wonderful balance between serenity and stimulation. Wherever I go, be it a stroll on the beach, a safari in South Africa, sunrise in Machu Pichu, or simply a walk around the block, I take photos and use them as an inspiration and reference for my paintings. They may be landscapes, still life, portraits, figures, or miscellaneous- often whimsical- scenes. As a musician, my artwork has often been inspired by musical themes, motifs, and by musicians I have met or seen in person. I have done watercolor and acrylic portraits, of musicians, especially jazz musicians.
I have exhibited primarily in New York, New Jersey, and in Florida, all locations in which I have resided. Currently living in South Florida, I find a great deal of inspiration in the plants, animals, and seashore. Travel to new places always provides inspiration. As always, I try to tell a story through the artwork I am creating at the time.
Much of my inspiration comes to me from music, from nature, and from current surroundings. Most of my earlier work was in watercolor. I've enjoyed pastel work also. Nw am focusing primarily on acrylics and venturing more and more into abstract and contemporary techniques.
