This work was created to show the appearance of a ferryman crossing the night waters of the ocean. Waves and wind are accepted in the paint strokes and usage of charcoal and coloring pencil to add depth to the background, while the lighting along the illuminated body of the figure and the small boat are reflected by the stars above. I made this to center focus on my love of the night and the water and how both elements can be terrifying and beautiful, all at the same time depending upon when they are experienced. Whether a journey, adventure, or a flight into escape, we are left to ask where the ferryman is headed? Is he in fear for his life or enjoying some nightly cruise along the face of the deep? I leave the answers and the resolve to such inquiries with you, the viewer to deduce at your leisure.
