Information

For those not familiar, Purple Haze is one of Jimi Hendrix's most famous songs. This was based on a photo of Jimi at the Newport Pop Festival in California 1969. Around 200,000 people attended. The rioting, poor logistics and security planning, and massive property damage marred the festival. The Jimi Hendrix Experience played two nights. Drummer Mitch Mitchell said their first performance on day 1 was their worst gig ever. Jimi just wasn't at his best. Their second performance on day 3 of the event ranked as one of his best ever. The festival was overshadowed by Woodstock soon after.
